Cookie & Tracking Policy

Last updated 17 June 2026

Explains the cookies and tracking technologies used on UniMatter’s website and how visitors can manage them.

1. Purpose and scope

This policy explains how UniMatter uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on its website, what those technologies do, and how a visitor may control them. It supplements the firm’s privacy policy and gives effect to the firm’s obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles in respect of any personal information collected through these technologies.

This policy applies to the UniMatter website and to any associated web properties operated by the firm.

2. What cookies and tracking technologies are

A cookie is a small text file placed on a visitor’s device by a website. Similar technologies include pixels, tags, local storage, and software development kits, which perform comparable functions. These technologies allow a website to recognise a device, remember preferences, and collect information about how the website is used.

Cookies may be set by UniMatter directly, in which case they are described as first-party, or by a third-party service operating on the website, in which case they are described as third-party.

3. Categories of cookies used

The UniMatter website currently operates no analytics or advertising trackers and sets no non-essential cookies. The only technologies in use fall within the strictly necessary category.

  1. Strictly necessary: required for the website to function and to be secure. The website is a static site; the records generated by a visit are limited to the standard server logs of the hosting provider and the request records of the third-party content-delivery networks that serve the site’s typefaces and icons.
  2. Not in use: preference, analytics, advertising, and cross-site tracking technologies are not operated on the website. UniMatter does not use cookies to build advertising profiles of visitors.

4. Personal information and analytics

Some information collected through strictly necessary technologies, such as an internet protocol address recorded in a server log, may constitute personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Where it does, UniMatter handles that information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles and its privacy policy.

No analytics service is currently operated. Should the firm introduce analytics in the future, it will update this policy and the privacy policy before doing so, and will configure any such service to limit the collection of personal information to what is necessary.

5. Consent and managing your preferences

Because the website sets no non-essential cookies, no cookie-consent notice is presented. Should the firm introduce cookies that are not strictly necessary, it will seek the visitor’s consent before any such cookie is set, and will provide preference controls through which consent may be withdrawn or changed at any time.

A visitor may also control cookies through their browser settings, including by blocking or deleting cookies. Disabling strictly necessary cookies may impair the operation of the website.

6. Third-party services

Where UniMatter uses a third-party service that sets cookies, that service is assessed under the Third-Party and Vendor Risk Policy, and the service provider handles information in accordance with its own terms and privacy practices. The firm limits its use of such services to reputable providers and to the purposes described in this policy.

UniMatter does not sell information collected through cookies, and does not disclose it to third parties except as necessary to operate the website or as required by law.

7. Retention

Cookies are retained for no longer than is necessary for their purpose. Session cookies expire when the browser is closed; persistent cookies expire after a defined period or when deleted by the visitor. Information collected through cookies is retained in accordance with the Data Retention and Deletion Policy.

8. Changes and contact

UniMatter may update this policy to reflect changes in its website, technologies, or legal obligations, and the current version is published on the firm’s website with the date of last update. Material changes are brought to visitors’ attention where appropriate.

A visitor who wishes to ask a question or exercise a privacy right in relation to cookies and tracking may contact UniMatter at administrator@unimatter.com.au.

This policy forms part of the UniMatter Security & Trust Centre. It is reviewed at least annually. Questions may be directed to administrator@unimatter.com.au.
